Out of the inspiration from the founder’s grandfather, and his own entrepreneurial spirit, Jeff Schilling started Creative Works back in 1997.
As a craftsman and cabinetmaker back in the 1880’s, Jeff’s grandfather built custom furniture, art pieces and more using various materials and mediums to create one of a kind treasures for his clients just as we do today.
We were born soon after Jeff’s years at college where he worked his way through school with multiple jobs, internships and side businesses to earn income to pay for his classes.
One of those jobs was one at a laser tag center in Indianapolis. He ended up completing a marketing internship there and saw the opportunity to transform how the laser tag game environments were created.
Until the start of Creative Works, the laser tag arenas that had been built back in those days were sterile and without imagination. We brought the WOW EFFECT to the laser tag industry by transforming the spaces into movie stage sets where guest imaginations could flourish and their experiences would be memorable.
With the help of some business acquaintances he met along the way in his other internships and jobs, Jeff borrowed enough money to start Creative Works and bootstrap his first project. Within a handful of years, we had built over 100 laser tag arenas, including a few in other parts of the world, before we began to expand our product line and build other complementary attractions for our clients.
Cosmic mini golf, Lazer Frenzy laser maze, escape rooms, virtual reality games and other attractions were added over time as we honed our skills and increased our staff to accommodate these other products.
Our facility was expanded multiple times as we grew and our culture was transformed to ensure our values (excellence, passion, integrity and commitment) were fostered from the top down. Today, we have worked with nearly a thousand clients from all parts of the world, and we have created over 40 million memories for players experiencing one of our attractions.
Our company was founded on October 9, 1997 by Jeff Schilling. That was the year Titanic hit the movie theaters, Seinfeld was the most popular show on TV, and Hanson released the hit song MMMBop. Obviously, a lot has changed since then; with both pop culture and our company. We’ve hit a lot of milestones over the years, and we can’t wait to achieve even more. We’d love to have you along for the ride – request a quote to see how we can help your business achieve more.
