Thinking Out Loud: Time Is Your Most Important Resource

Thinking Out Loud – Episode 7

This is the seventh episode in a series called Thinking Out Loud. In these videos, Armando Lanuti, the President of Creative Works, shares some of his thoughts on business, leadership, growth, operations, and anything else on his mind. Below is a transcript of some of the points he discusses in the video.

Hey everybody, I’m trying to drive to work, wanted to kind of give you guys a little bit of a breakdown of something that’s what I feel is under looked in society today and that is to realize that time not money, not product, not people but time is your most important resource whether that be on a personal level or on a business level.

And it’s a resource that is equal for everybody, so a lot of times people will talk about how they have an unfair shake at this or an unfair shake at that, everybody has the same hours in the day and yes, some people are better set up to use those 24 hours but you need to find in your life, in your everyday and in your business how do you use your time.

Are you sitting and watching Netflix every night?

Or are you utilizing that time with your family and with your business?

Something as simple as today, right. I’m driving to work and I have a 45 minute commute, now with that commute, I try and use that for work.

I don’t assume that my day starts when I get to the office or that my day ends when I leave the office.

My day doesn’t end until I actually get home and I open the door, my son comes out and my 20 month old is like “Dada, Dada” like that’s when my day ends, so to speak.

Up until that point, I’m using my car for – it’s basically my mobile office, I’m talking on the phone, I am working with partners, with projects, with clients, with other people on our team or I’m using it to better myself, right, I consider this work.

So I’ve talked about self-improvement, right now I’ve got Crushing It by Gary V up on my phone for my Audible.

Use that as time for self-improvement even if it’s not something that you’re doing work related.

Other examples of things you should be doing to save time and realizing what is your time worth, and as your most valuable asset, if you can save a half an hour here or an hour there, what would you pay yourself if you were getting something done?

So something that my wife and I do for example is a couple of the groceries around us offer this click list thing, it’s the most amazing invention ever because I just pick out what I want, I pay 5 dollars, I pick it up, and it’s all gotten for me. I don’t have to think about it, I don’t have to spend 45 minutes in the grocery store waiting in line, waiting for a bagger that’s incredibly slow, fighting my kids through the aisles, creating that frustration, right.

Look for those kind of things in your life that will free up your time so that you can use that in a more productive manner or just use it for a leisure.
So if you really are working really hard and all these other things and you’re crushing it in your business and you need to find that leisure time by finding those time hacks in other areas that will allow you to gain that leisure time back.

So if you do want to enjoy Netflix, the occasional Luke Cage or Jessica Jones or whatever the case may be, you can do that.
So just remember, time is a resource.

It’s one that we all have the same amount of and it is your most precious resource because when you run out, you’re done.

You’ve got 24 hours in the day, hopefully 80+ years on this planet, but it’s the same resource that everybody else has. So make sure you’re using it wisely.

We’ll take to you soon.
